MilanWhere a product launch is expected to look like something
One of Europe’s largest exhibition grounds, a congress centre that seats eighteen thousand, and a design industry that raises the bar on how a launch looks.
The honest version
Milan carries two kinds of event unusually well: the very large trade fair at Fiera Milano Rho, and the launch that has to be beautiful. The city’s design, fashion and automotive industries mean the production, styling and fabrication supply chain is genuinely better than most of Europe, and it shows on stage.
The constraint is the city’s own calendar. Salone del Mobile and the fashion weeks do not just raise hotel rates, they remove the inventory, and they book the good production crews eighteen months out. Check your dates against them before you fall in love with a venue.

Operating notes
What actually decides whether Milan works for you.
Airlift, hotel capacity, ground and season — in that order, and before anyone falls in love with a photograph.
Access and airlift
Malpensa (MXP) handles long-haul, Linate (LIN) is fifteen minutes from the centre for European traffic, Bergamo (BGY) covers low-cost. High-speed rail to Rome in under three hours.
Hotels and capacity
Strong at the top end and reasonable in the middle, but rate-volatile. During fair weeks the same room can triple, which is a contracting problem rather than a budgeting one.
Ground and distance
Metro line 1 runs to Rho Fiera in about thirty minutes. Centre-to-fair coach movements need real time allowances at peak.
Season and calendar
March to June and September to November. Check against Salone del Mobile in April and the fashion weeks in February and September before anything else.
