The honest version
Las Vegas is the most operationally efficient place on earth to run a very large conference or exhibition. Enormous halls, tens of thousands of rooms within walking distance, and a workforce that does nothing but this.
The trade-offs are the calendar and the labour rules. When a major show is in town everything is full, and union jurisdiction over rigging, electrical and freight is strict and expensive.
Operating notes
What actually decides whether Las Vegas works for you.
Airlift, hotel capacity, ground and season — in that order, and before anyone falls in love with a photograph.
- 01Access and airlift
- Harry Reid International (LAS) is close to the Strip with extensive domestic and growing international service.
- 02Hotels and capacity
- Tens of thousands of rooms, with rates that swing enormously by convention calendar.
- 03Ground and distance
- Short distances but heavy congestion during major shows; walking between venues is often faster.
- 04Season and calendar
- Driven by the convention calendar rather than the weather. Summer is extremely hot; spring and autumn are peak.
