Operating notes
Access and airlift
Menara (RAK) has dense short-haul European service and Gulf connections, with long-haul routing through Casablanca, Paris or Madrid. Casablanca is three hours by rail.
Humberto Delgado (LIS) has strong European coverage plus Americas and Africa links; the airport is unusually close to the city.
Hotels
Strong across every tier from riads to large resorts, at rates well below comparable European product. Large blocks need the resort corridor rather than the medina.
Good quality and value, but capacity is the constraint in peak weeks.
Ground
Straightforward for coaches on the ring roads. The medina is not vehicle-accessible in any useful sense, so evening transfers there end in a walk and need planning as such.
Short transfers and an easy city to move around. Hills and narrow old-town streets restrict coach access in places.
Season
March to May and September to November. June to August is very hot, and Ramadan moves each year — check it against your dates before anything else.
April to June and September to October are best. Major congress weeks remove hotel availability entirely.

- Medina venues cannot take vehicles — the last leg is on foot
- Riad capacity is small; a 400-person dinner needs a resort or the desert
- Alcohol licensing at some venues needs confirming in writing, early
- Hotel capacity is the binding constraint — book blocks very early
- Old-town venues have real access and load-in limits
- Peak-week rates rise steeply
- Estoril and Cascais add transfer time that is easy to underestimate
