The discipline
A conference is judged on the twenty minutes at the front of the room. That is a set, a lighting plot, an audio system, a video chain, a content pipeline and a person calling cues — and it either was rehearsed or it was not.
We design to the building we surveyed, control the content through one desk and rehearse the joins, because sessions fail at the handovers rather than in the middle.

A rule without a reason gets dropped the first time it is inconvenient. Each of these has the failure it prevents written next to it.

One controlled version of every deck
Why it exists
Content arrives at one desk, is checked on the show system rather than a laptop, and is locked. A slide emailed during lunch is how plenaries fall behind.
The rule03
Rehearse the transitions
Why it exists
Walk-ons, panel changes, video ends and microphone handovers are the part with no script. They are also where the audience notices.
The rule04
Backups agreed before rehearsal, not during it
Why it exists
Redundant playback, a spare radio channel, a lighting state that survives a desk failure, a plan for the delayed keynote. Assigned to a person and tested — otherwise it is a hope.
